Squeak!

It’s not everyday you wake to discover there is a new Dave Eggers novel on the shelves. Lucky I decided to pay McSweeney’s a visit this morning!

Readers, I would like you to meet A Hologram for the King.
New York Times Review here.
McSweeney’s Store page here.

As soon as I can get myself a copy, I will let you know what I think. But if we’re being honest, I’m already very very excited.

    • I most certainly will review it! I actually called my local independent bookshop right after I wrote this post and they had 5 copies, one of which is now on my desk. Technically it doesn’t come out in Australia till July, but there’s this quirk of copyright law here where you have to import and sell 30 copies in order to reserve the rights you have already acquired to publish (at least that’s how I remember it).

I tells you what. Some days it is particularly lucky that I know a little bit about the way the industry works! What if I hadn’t read about the release and missed the advances???

  1. Ohmaigosh, isn’t that the truth? (Am I wrong to say that all international copyright law seems to be filled with these sorts of quirks?)

Have you started reading it yet? One thing I do like about Eggers is that each one of his books is very different from the last. That takes serious muscle, I think!

    • It takes so much muscle. Definitely one of the reasons I try to read all of them 🙂 Review is up now, it was a hard review to write actually!

      • I can’t wait to read it! I was reading a book proposal last night for a friend, so I’m still behind on my reading— tonight, though, watch out! I am coming over to yr. blog!
