If you have read my About page, you already know that I have strong opinions about the publicity machine behind new release fiction. Not so long ago, a very good book was sold by word of mouth. Now we have to wade through a mire of calculated, publicity grabs. For the large retailers, publishers pay a premium for prominent display space and books are bought and sold because they look the part…

Is it any wonder readers are disappointed with the results from time to time?

So it is that I found a friend in this article on Salon.com this morning. I have not read the books it discusses, but boy oh boy do I recognise the sentiment! It discusses the discord between a “good” book and good book. I hope you enjoy.
